Ten families whose homes were completely destroyed by a mudslide in the village of Barrushon, Rushan district, Gorno-Badakhshan Autonomous Region (GBAO), have received keys to newly built houses.
The handover ceremony took place on September 30 and was attended by GBAO Governor Sharifkhon Safarzoda and Rushan district Chairman Ilhom Ahmadzoda.
According to the GBAO regional administration, the families received modern homes equipped with the necessary facilities for comfortable living.
A new settlement named Istiqlol has been established at the site. A school, kindergarten and sports ground are planned to be built there.
The mudslide hit Barrushon on July 20 amid a sharp rise in temperatures and intensive glacier melt. It damaged 40 homes: 10 were completely destroyed, 13 sustained partial damage, and the remainder suffered minor damage.
Following President Emomali Rahmon’s instructions, an emergency task force led by Safarzoda operated around the clock in Rushan district, coordinating assistance to residents and cleanup operations.
The affected families were relocated to safe areas and provided with food and essential supplies.
The 10 families whose homes were destroyed were allocated land plots the day after the disaster, and construction of their new houses subsequently began. Building materials were also supplied for the repair of partially damaged homes.
Residents whose houses sustained minor damage were assisted with removing mud and debris.
